Welcome back to 2013

Welcome back to 2013, the staff have all been busy preparing for an exciting new year at Shirley Primary School.  Here we all were taking some time-out together on Thursday...

This year we welcome lots of new students from Hammersley Park School which closed in December, a special welcome to you and your families; we also welcome a group of new entrant (Year 1) students and some new students who have moved into the school zone. A warm welcome to our new teachers, too: Miss Ashley Masters and Miss Genevieve Fenton, and we welcome Miss Victoria Glassey back from Melbourne.

Up and coming changes ....

  • The new playgrounds are almost ready to be installed, work on these will begin in week 2 this term.
  • The two new re-locatable classrooms have been approved by the Ministry of Education and hopefully these will be in our school by the end of the month...in the meantime Miss Glassey and Room 2 will temporarily work in Room 1 with Mrs Foulds and Mrs Piper, Mrs Murray and Mr Sim and Room 14 will temporarily work in Room 2 (back to the juniors:), and Miss Masters and Room 13 will temporarily work in the library. Thanks everyone for your patience.
  • The playing fields will be re-sown to make them safer for our ankles around Easter of this term (week 8/9) so the anticipated cooler and rainier weather will help the new grass grow.
Finally, if you are driving to school tomorrow please leave with plenty of time as we anticipate the roads will be busy and unfortunately there will NOT be parking spaces outside the school on Shirley Rd. As major roadworks are underway this will have an impact on the roads at the back and front of the school. The NZ Police will be there tomorrow to help us with our road patrol as there will only be one lane with east-bound traffic and a Slater St detour...so take care on the roads and if you live close you may be able to walk with your child to school.

Early to bed tonight for all of us, I am looking forward to seeing you all soon
Sylvia (Ms Fidow)
